Jonathan Yong Kim (born 5 February 1984), also called Jonny Kim, is an American US Navy lieutenant commander (and former SEAL), physician, and NASA astronaut.

Born and raised in California, Kim enlisted in the United States Navy in the early 2000s before earning a Silver Star and his commission. While a US sailor, Kim also received his Bachelor of Arts (summa cum laude) in mathematics, his Doctor of Medicine, and an acceptance to NASA Astronaut Group 22 in 2017. He completed his astronaut training in 2020 and was awaiting a flight assignment with the Artemis program as of December 2020.

While studying at Harvard Medical School, Kim met and was inspired by astronaut–physician Scott E. Parazynski to apply for Astronaut Candidacy.[4] On June 7, 2017,[10] Kim was one of twelve candidates chosen from a pool of over 18,300 applicants to join NASA Astronaut Group 22.[11] He reported for duty on 21 August 2017,[4] and graduated from training on 10 January 2020. According to NASA, Kim will work in the Astronaut Office while awaiting a flight assignment.[6] On 9 December 2020, NASA formally announced that Kim would join 17 other astronauts in training for a 2024 Moon landing.[12]

Medical Musical Group

Award-winning MMG is considered the world’s premier integrated medical chorale and symphony orchestra. Core members are “healers” – doctors, nurses and community volunteers from Veterans and other US medical centers and schools all over the USA. MMG’s mission is to perform “Music with a Message” – of healing, hope, inspiration, patriotism at home; and peace and international brotherhood and sisterhood overseas.  We deeply cherish America’s veterans, and share a genuine and heartfelt concern for their issues.

It was founded by Victor Wahby

NMMG in Genf | Ginevra 2011, Wolfgang Ellenberger Soloist and conducting

Dr. Wahby is a Renaissance man: physician, musician, scientist, poet, and conductor. Educated in both medicine and music, he studied conducting with Joseph El-Sissi, the Vienna-trained conductor of the Cairo Symphony Orchestra.

During his tenure at the Mayo Clinic he conducted the Mayo Medical Chorale and Orchestra, and while on the Yale Medical School faculty he conducted the Yale Medical Musical Group, the forerunner of the current national group he founded.

The Washington Post praised Dr. Wahby for his “sincere interpretations of music.”
