The Northwestern Medical Orchestra was formed in the Spring of 2018 by first-year medical students to provide an instrumental musical experience for members of the Northwestern medical community in downtown Chicago. The orchestra’s first season culminated in a two-concert series including works by Dvorak, Beethoven, Ravel, and John Williams. NMO hopes to share its music with students, physicians, staff, and patients alike.

NIH Philharmonia

The National Institutes of Health has always been in the forefront of cutting-edge scientific and medical research.  Just as exciting as what is occurring in the research labs is something happening outside them: the orchestra music produced by the National Institutes of Health Philharmonia.
By offering free, high-quality concerts in a less formal setting than area concert halls, and drawing on the talents of those working at NIH and elsewhere in Montgomery County, the orchestra builds community and inspires a greater awareness of and appreciation for classical music in all its forms–including the works of new composers.
The NIH Philharmonia is an all-volunteer organization founded for the purpose of bringing together the dedicated musical talent of NIH researchers, federal workers, and the surrounding community.  The orchestra is affiliated with the NIH Recreation and Welfare Organization.

University of Cincinnati Medical Symphony Orchestra

The Medical Symphony Orchestra (MSO) was formed in 2019 by Medical Sciences students to bridge our love of music and medicine. As a service-based orchestra, we aim to support health-related nonprofits, medical faculty, patients, senior citizens, and other students through group performances. Aside from offering the opportunity to continue playing music while at UC, we are a fun and friendly group that welcome new members.

What We Do

The Medical Symphony Orchestra plays concerts for nursing homes, hospitals, and around the UC College of Medicine in hopes that our music can offer healing for others. We are currently making virtual videos for nursing homes and are working towards supporting nonprofits.

Medical Arts Symphony

Category : OrchestraDocs

The Medical Arts Symphony began in 1959 when Eleanor Sharp and some of her colleagues at the University of Kansas Medical Center decided to share their avocation of symphonic music with their professions in healthcare. Since its founding, the Symphony has not wavered from its dual mission of providing an opportunity for amateur musicians to perform great works of Western music and enriching the cultural life of Kansas City by presenting free concerts, including premier performances of works by local composers. For thirty years, the orchestra was conducted by Leopold Shopmaker, who was succeeded by Dr. Merton Shatzkin in 1989. John Bell assumed the reins in 2013. Steve Lewis is the current Music Director. Today, the orchestra includes physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, healthcare students, as well as other musicians from the Kansas City area.
