Berlin Doctors Orchestra

Founded in 1911 it is one of the oldest Doctors Orchestras. Since 2022 they have a Greek lady conductor.

(DE:) Wir sind ein mittelständisches Liebhaberorchester, in dem sowohl das Musizieren aus Spaß als auch die ernsthafte Probenarbeit für unsere beiden jährlichen Konzerte nicht zu kurz kommen. Unter der künstlerischen Leitung unserer Dirigentin Chrysanthie Emmanouilidou stehen bei uns hauptsächlich sinfonische Werke der Romantik auf dem Programm. Darüber hinaus haben wir uns zum Ziel gesetzt, unseren Zuhörern auch unbekannte Werke näher zu bringen.

Das Berliner Ärzte – Orchester hat eine lange Tradition und feierte 2021 sein 110-jähriges Jubiläum. Damals wie heute gilt, dass bei uns nicht nur Mediziner spielen, sondern alle willkommen sind, die Interesse an der klassischen Musik haben und das richtige Instrument bedienen können.

The idea was simpel and genial: Doctors from all over Germany meet one week at different places in Germany to make music with a Symphony Orchestra. With an announcement in the “Deutsches Ärzteblatt” it began in 1989. It´s a wonderful story up to now. The General Practitioner Dr. Dieter Pöller from Munich founded the orchestra.

EMSOC – European Medical Students Orchestra & Choir

For 30 years, EMSOC has brought together an orchestra and a choir of music-loving young people from medical and medical-related courses and professions as well as young doctors from all over Europe. In a ten-day project phase, which travels through the European countries every year and is organized independently by the participants, a musically demanding concert program is developed and performed in two benefit concerts at the end of the intensive rehearsal phase. In addition to the rehearsal work, excursions, city tours and country-specific programs offer the host country the opportunity to present its typical features and specifics. In addition to making music together, EMSOC enables the young Europeans to engage in discourse on current European issues.

EMSOC Deutschland e. V. would like to support this unique project concept from the German side and make a contribution to the promotion of cultural life in this country, European exchange and cohesion between young Europeans. Because anyone who has ever taken part in EMSOC or experienced a concert of this kind will never forget this sense of community.

Yale Medical Symphony Orchestra

Founded in 2008, the Yale Medical Symphony Orchestra is an all-volunteer orchestra featuring members of the Yale medical community.

The YMSO is a volunteer orchestra mainly drawing from the medical community at Yale University. We perform major orchestral works by a variety of classical composers, and produce 2-3 full concerts per year. Rehearsals are on Thursday nights from 6:45pm-9pm in Harkness Auditorium in the School of Medicine, 333 Cedar St. New Haven, CT

The performing arts component of Project Art was created to offer diversion and stimulation through music, dance, and theater. Project Art schedules more than 60 performances each year. Audience size varies, ranging from 50 to 200 people.

Many Project Art performances take place during the noon hour to attract staff and visitors during lunch breaks. Other performance times can be arranged.

Each winter, Project Art coordinates performances for the Festival of World Cultures, a month-long program featuring cultures and religions from around the world. In addition, during the summer months, Project Art hosts a performance series called Summer Concert Series, which is sponsored by Volunteer Services. These weekly events are held on the Rooftop Terrace located outside the Patient and Visitor Activities Center on the eighth floor of Carver Pavilion (weather permitting).

UF Health Music Ensemble

In April 2014, former AIM volunteer coordinator and musician, Ferol Carytsas, set the goal to launch a UF Health music ensemble within the next three years. She was inspired by similar programs at the University of Michigan and Duke University and used them as a reference for establishing the UF Health music ensemble. Recognizing that so many medical professionals have a background in the arts, Ferol contacted UF Health Communications and began a recruitment campaign among staff. Her first recruit was Linda Morris, M.S.N., R.N., NE-BC, a UF Health Shands Hospital SAGE nurse. Recruitment efforts were slow, but in the course of a year, Ferol was able to recruit ten musicians consisting of UF Health faculty, staff, students and alumni. In May 2016, the UF Health music ensemble debuted a program featuring works from Vivaldi to Coldplay. Since their first performance, they have presented two concerts a semester.
