I’ve been ill since 2014, unfortunately with a rarer form of ALS with extreme spasticity and bulbar symptoms.
Unfortunately, I can no longer speak or swallow. I’m quadriplegic and anarthric, and can no longer move anything. Despite this, I still find quality of life.
I used to be an extreme athlete and did crazy things. I’m both a doctor and a patient myself. I made the diagnosis myself. I live in a normal family, and we have a young daughter. My wife is a nurse and takes care of her. We try to live and live as normally as possible. Unfortunately, I can no longer work and now I write books. Writing is tedious and exhausting. I have a good computer with infrared light control, and I write with my eyes. Not as fast anymore, but better than nothing. I founded a small publishing house for literature and art and support young artists and authors.

Tenniskarriere und Tennisausbildung
In addition to my medical training, I also completed the highest level of training in ÖTV tennis teaching to become a state-certified tennis instructor and state-certified tennis coach at the Austrian Federal Sports Academy. I have also achieved valuable tennis successes myself and, as a counterbalance to my medical activities, I still keep myself fit through sport. Discipline, punctuality, taking personal responsibility, commitment, consistency, stamina, focus, the ability to overcome obstacles, resilience, resistance to stress, dealing with disappointment and defeat, accepting defeat, not becoming arrogant because of victories, setting goals and working consistently towards them, practicing teamwork, lifelong friendships, and staying calm and overview in critical situations are positive aspects that I have also learned through tennis and that help me a lot in my professional and private life. For an incredible 40 years, from the age of 16, I played for the SV Sparkasse Leobendorf men’s tennis team in the general league (interrupted by three years of championship play for UTC Stockerau). I also served as team captain for several years and enjoyed great success in championship competitions, including in the state league. I’m still very active in sports, fortunately in top shape, passionate about skiing, and, of course, still playing tennis, as well as extensive, exciting bike rides.

In 2003, after a career in scientific research and upper management, the former marathon runner decided – after 20 years of a sedentary lifestyle – to reconnect with a serious sport.[1]
In 2008, after having successfully competed in several long-distance cycling events,[1] he finished the Race Across America in 10 days, 22 hours and 56 minutes to cover a distance of 3.000 miles between Oceanside, California, and Annapolis, Maryland. Out of 27 solo-participants he finished in seventh position. Nehls devised a new regenerative strategy and rested for a total of over 90 hours, several times more than his competitors.[2][3] He wrote a book about his experience called “Herausforderung Race Across America” (“Challenge Race Across America”) and produced a DVD called ‘Du musst nicht siegen, um zu gewinnen. (English translation: “You need no victory to be a winner”) on his own.
Since 2011, Nehls has published several books on the necessary behavioral changes required for healthy aging from an evolutionary history point of view. First “The Methuselah-Strategy” then with Alzheimer-Lüge (English translation: “The Alzheimer’s Lie”) and Alzheimer ist heilbar (English translation: “Alzheimer’s can be cured”) two books about Alzheimer’s disease, in which he presents his theory about the development of this special form of dementia from evolutionary history of life and systems biology point of view.
Michael Nehls’s book, The Indoctrinated Brain, has sparked considerable controversy for its bold claims about the effects of mRNA COVID-19 vaccines on human cognition and autonomy. Nehls suggests that these vaccines, among other modern pressures, are part of a global assault manipulating the human mind, aiming to facilitate increased governmental control over individuals. His theories align with broader conspiratorial narratives, which have been disseminated through various platforms known for hosting such content.[8]
Nehls’s work was featured in a discussion with Tucker Carlson, where he outlined his views on the manipulation of human memory and cognition through fear, suggesting a deliberate effort to control the populace.[9] Furthermore, Nehls’s theories have been cited by conspiratorial outlets such as Infowars in an article called “Molecular Geneticist Explains How mRNA Vaccines Were Designed to Conquer the Human Mind”, further associating his work with fringe narratives.
Moreover, The Indoctrinated Brain was published by Skyhorse Publishing, a company that has a record of publishing works with conspiratorial angles. Skyhorse Publishing has built a reputation for taking on authors that other houses avoid, including figures who have propagated misinformation, including false theories about coronavirus vaccines.[10] This backdrop places Nehls’s work within a specific context of controversial literature.
While Nehls’s hypotheses have found support among certain circles, including endorsements in his book from figures like Naomi Wolf and Stephanie Seneff, they have not been widely accepted by the mainstream scientific community. Leading health organizations, including the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), continue to support the safety and efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines, countering claims that they are tools for government manipulation.
The discussion around The Indoctrinated Brain exemplifies the tension between fringe theories and established scientific consensus, highlighting the challenges in public health communication and the fight against misinformation in the age of COVID-19.

a couple of months ago you have asked me to report about my hobbies. That is a little risky because I am helping many prejudices by that…..
Besides my professions as pharmacist, art dealer and setting up game-automates I am active in the politics for my profession as pharmacist (as delegate of the Bavarian pharmacist chamber and regional president of the nationwide association of “active pharmacists”).
In some associations like “wine brethren” and “aviation club” I am in the presidency.
In principle that would do, but the day has 24 hours! So I go fishing and hunting, go by boat and go flying my balloon (see picture).
Also I fly airplanes and shoot “Vorderlader”, drive bycicle and play golf.
Under the aspect of time that goes very wel because my wife Hanne participates in all of these hobbies apart from flying.
But my favourite hobby is music! I have bought several instruments and try to play “jagdhorn“, trombone, trumpet, clarinet, saxophone, “Hackbrett“, “Zither“, double bass, hornpipes, drumset, violin, a self-constructed harmonika, electric organ and last not least piano.
Regular highlights of my little life are the games of chess with my 12-year-old son Michael having a (big) glass of wine and playing four hands with my little boy.
Sorry that this letter took so long although I have sufficiently time, but in the beginning I did not find the picture with my balloon…..
