Jacalyn Duffin, MD, PhD, ist Hämatologin und Historikerin und hatte von 1988 bis 2017 den Hannah-Lehrstuhl für Medizingeschichte an der Queen’s University inne.
Als ehemalige Präsidentin der American Association for the History of Medicine und der Canadian Society for the History of Medicine ist sie Autorin von elf Büchern und zahlreichen Artikeln und erhielt mehrere Auszeichnungen für ihre Lehre und Forschung. Sie ist Mitglied des Order of Canada (2020) und Fellow der Royal Society of Canada (2012) und der Canadian Academy of Health Sciences (2013). Dr. Andrea McCrady wurde 2008 zur Dominion Carillonneur des Peace Tower Carillon ernannt. Sie begann 1971 am Trinity College in Hartford, CT (B.A., 1975) Glockenspiel zu spielen. Während ihres Postgraduiertenstipendiums in Europa studierte sie an Glockenspielschulen in den Niederlanden, Belgien und Frankreich. Während ihres Medizinstudiums an der McGill University in Montreal war sie Glockenspielerin am St. Joseph’s Oratory, gefolgt von ihrer Facharztausbildung in Toronto, wo sie an der University of Toronto und bei der Canadian National Exhibition spielte. Von 1990 bis 2008 koordinierte sie das Glockenspielprogramm der Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Spokane, WA, wo sie auch als Allgemeinmedizinerin praktizierte. 2008 beendete sie ihr Medizinstudium, nachdem sie an der University of Denver einen Bachelor of Music mit Auszeichnung erhalten hatte. 2012 wechselte sie als Dozentin zum ersten Glockenspielstudienprogramm Kanadas an die Carleton University in Ottawa.
Dr. McCrady war viele Jahre im Vorstand der Guild of Carillonneurs in North America (GCNA) und von 1988 bis 1989 deren Präsidentin. Sie war Co-Vorsitzende des GCNA Ronald Barnes Memorial Grant Fund und des Heritage Music Committee. Von 1990 bis 1996 war sie Sekretärin der World Carillon Federation (WCF) und hielt Vorträge und Konzerte auf den WCF-Kongressen 1996, 2002, 2014, 2021 und 2023.
Umgeben von der Liebe seiner Familie starb Daniel Kandelman am 13. April 2023 im Maison St Raphaël auf dem Mount Royal zwischen seinem Familienhaus und der Universität von Montreal.
Er war der geliebte Ehemann von Isabelle, der liebevolle Vater von Séverine (Aurélien Bourdier) und Stanislas (Laure Maillard) und der bewundernde Großvater von Balthazar, Félix, Émile und Marius.
Daniel kam im Juli 1976 mit Isabelle mit einem Einjahresvertrag als Assistenzprofessor für Zahnmedizin an der Universität Montreal nach Quebec. Die Freude am Leben in Quebec, am Unterrichten an der Fakultät, an der Umsetzung von Gesundheitsprojekten in der Gemeinde, am Treffen wundervoller Freunde und die Freude, die ich mit Isabelle teile, ihre Kinder in Montreal aufwachsen zu sehen, verwandelten das ursprünglich geplante Jahr in ein Lebensprojekt.
Seine Liebe zur Musik prägte sein Leben und das seiner Nächsten. Die Konzerte, die er oft zusammen mit anderen Musikern veranstaltete, begeisterten seine Patienten, die sich darüber freuten, dass ihr Zahnarzt Pianist war, und überzeugten einige Kollegen, die diese Leidenschaft gerne mit ihm teilten.
Seine Familie möchte dem Palliativpflegepersonal von CLSC Parc Extension, Nova Soins à domicile und Maison St Raphaël danken.

I am enclosing some pictures of some of the models I have built over several years. Unfortunately, I do not have too many „action“ photos, but these will perhaps give you some idea of what I do.
I built my first steamboat model at age nine. I have always ‚made‘ things! From childhood I built boats. As a teenager during the war, I built model aeroplanes. Then after the war, as a med student, I bought my first lathe and built a small workshop in the cellar of our house. I produced several small engines for boats and then started my first locomotive – „Virginia“ (American standard 4-4-0), seen in the workshop photo with the unfinished Duchess“.

Following a stint in the R.A.F. at Wegberg, I did more work on Virginia and then emigrated to Canada where Virginia was completed in 1962. During this time I also made a steam yacht which now occupies a glass case I my office.
Following the completion of Virginia, I made several other things – a launch engine for a three-meter boat, a stationary beam, and with the help of the kids – I started building a railway track round the garden. About this time, I also began building the Duchess (completed in 1981) which took nine years to construct. However, as it was a major undertaking to get her onto the track, being so heavy (200 kilos); I commenced „Jane“, a green dock tank engine which you can see with one of my sons and his wife near the water tower on the photo.
Jane was built in two years and as she only weighs 60k, she is easy to get onto the track and very happy with a load of six adults. (I imported my Welsh steam coal – half a ton – from the U.K. many years ago, so I’m O.K. for a good bit yet!) In the meantime, a traction engine was built in the nineties together with several other odds and ends.
During my years in Newfoundland, the workshop has been considerably enlarged and has welding (gas and electric), milling, shaping, and a new Myford lathe acquired in 1965. I also have a cutter grinder and various woodworking tools – both hand and machine.
Living in the land of snow and ice, I also have a caterpillar tractor to clear the snow. This rather large beastie requires maintenance at times. As well, I have several automobile projects as I was also engaged in motor sport locally and inter-provincially. I was a national steward for several years.
So now, I’m having to sit back on my laurels at the age of 78 with a total hip replacement and spinal stenosis! I hope this gives you some idea of what a „model engineer“ does!
My late wife was once asked, „And what do you do?“ Her reply was, „I bask in my husband’s reflected glory!“ She was however, an excellent nurse and mother and a literary genius!

I Medici di McGill („Physicians of McGill“) Orchestra was founded in 1989. Its primary roots are musical talents found amongst the staff and students of the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University in Montréal and their medical and musical colleagues and friends in the Montréal area.
Since the initial 14 string players the orchestra’s membership grew to over 65 members, including the 31st season 2019-2020. Over the years more than 500 instrumentalists have been associated with the ensemble.
Since 2014 the ensemble is under the musical leadership of Gilles Auger who succeeded Iwan Edwards (2000-2014) and the founding conductor is Wanda Kaluzny (1989-2000).

Vor seiner Auswahl in den kanadischen Astronautenkader arbeitete Saint-Jacques als Arzt in einer Klinik einer Inuit-Siedlung in der kanadischen Provinz Québec.
