German Pediatricians Orchestra


The only orchestra in the world consisting of pediatricians was founded in 1960 by Dr. Werth from Warendorf/Germany as a little chamber orchestra. After the first conductor conductor Wilhelm Stross died surprisingly the violinist and professor of the Wien Music Academy Eduard Melkus guided the orchestra towards its full size as a symphony orchestra. Berlin Äsculap Orchestra


In 1964 the “Sinfonisches Orchester beim Kranken­haus Prenzlauer Berg ” was founded in East Berlin at the hospital Prenzlauer Berg, being formed from medical staff. and students. In 1969 it was called “Berliner Ärzteorchester”, After the re-union of east and west Germany they discussed to fusion with the West Berlin Doctors Orchestra but this did not make any sense because of the size of the orchestra, so they switched to “Orchester ÄSKULAP Berlin”.
